Your Giving Impact

Your investment in Congressional School affirms its direction and the important work we are doing in service of the children entrusted to our care. Following are just a few ways in which your gifts to Congressional School made an impact in the 2023-2024 school year.

Picture of Congressional School's main building
In 2024 we saw significant campus enhancements, including the renovation of the iconic front entrance of the Big School. We also installed an extensive outdoor patio as a space for learning, play, and community getherings. And, we made a major renovation and enhancement to our security booth and front entrance.

As part of the school's multi-year arts initiative, students and faculty welcomed two Artist in Residence to the school in 2024, Jason Curry, an independent school music educator in New York City and saxophonist who performs with Jazz at Lincoln Center, and Amy Fitts, a theatre educator and professional Broadway actor.
Teresa Do, Librarian at Congressional School
In 2024, we announced the winners of the Head of School Innovation Grants. The recipients of these grants have the opportunity to develop effective and engaging learning opportunities beyond what is already offered in the academic program. Five talented faculty members received the grants and used the funds for professional development and program development that is benefitting our students now.
Field Trips at Congressional School
We take full advantage of the abundant resources within easy reach in the Washington, DC area. Students enrich their learning with visits to theaters, museums, galleries, and historical sites. In mlddle school they venture further afield to study at the Clifton Institute, and environmental studies at the Chincoteague Bay Field Station. In 2025, we are adding our most exciting excursion yet, with a week-long civil rights tour for our 8th graders.
Colts Care is a social-emotional learning program providing an opportunity for small groups of middle school students to connect with our horses to learn how to care for them and build a connection. Interacting with animals has been proven to reduce stress and build empathy, and our gentle, friendly horses are perfect for this impactful program.

Student swimming at Congressional School
With the opening of the Rameika Family Aquatics Center, we have added swimming as a new physical education unit for students in Kindergarten-Grade 4. In consultation with the Red Cross and the YMCA swim curriculums, the physical education department has constructed a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate curriculum for all levels of swimmers, and the heated pool allows for swimming well into the fall and in the spring.

Congressional relies on the Congressional Fund to provide critical support for the operating budget.

Gifts to the Congressional Fund contribute to all areas of the school, and each gift makes an immediate impact on our students' education, allowing the school to offer more resources to students and faculty than would be possible if we relied on tuition revenue alone.

PITCH IN FOR CONGRESSIONAL

On Friday, April 19, 2024, we celebrated at our Pitch in for Congressional Gala by coming together to raise funds to kick-start the transformation of two of our most used and loved spaces on campus: the Big School cafeteria and the Little School playgrounds. Having spaces on campus that meet the needs of our community is our goal and is the primary purpose behind these two important capital projects. Plans are underway for the renovations which will be a multi-phase endeavor.
