Stefanie joined Congressional School in 2015 and was a stay-at-home mom for the prior 5 years to raise her children. When her youngest entered kindergarten, she was ready to return to her love of teaching. She has taught over 11 years in a variety of settings and grades. She taught third grade for nine years; most recently at a private school in Loudoun County. She also taught junior kindergarten, kindergarten, first, and fourth grades in Miami as well as in Tokyo, Japan. Stefanie loves using her teaching experiences and time abroad to enhance her teaching. She joined first joined us as a fourth grade teacher and transitioned to her role as Reading Specialist in 2018.

Stefanie Hjalmervik, pronounced “Jallmervick”, is married to Steve together they have two children, Aaron and Kaylin. She has lived here in Northern Virginia for 10 years. Prior to that, she lived in Tokyo, Miami, Atlanta, and a small town in Iowa where she is from originally, just to name a few.
