Middle School Spanish Teacher
B.S. and Master in English Philology, University of Seville
M.A. in Modern Languages and Literature, The Catholic University of America
Mar joined Congressional School as our Middle School Spanish teacher in 2018. A native of Spain, Mar has taught Spanish at various prestigious institutions in the US such as Georgetown Day School in Washington D.C. and The Dalton School in New York City. She has also enjoyed her teaching experiences at Northern Virginia Community College and The Catholic University of America.
In addition to teaching, Mar loves art and fashion. She holds dual certifications in fashion styling and fashion consulting from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She also enjoys visiting new art exhibits at museums and reading about the world and business of fashion. Mar comes from a family with a musical tradition. In her car and at home, many different genres of music can be heard, but flamenco is definitely at the top of her list. Since her name means “the sea” in Spanish, you can find her at her most natural self when she is close to water, either swimming in the ocean or skiing on frozen slopes, always with her favorite people in the world—her husband, children, and family.
“I feel so blessed to get up every morning and do something that I love, which is to teach my language to future generations of Americans. As an educator, I aim to guide and lead my students in the adventure of learning a second language. I am always amazed to see where they take that learning.”
